Venue climate control. July and August in Athens routinely hit 38-40°C. Providers who deliver in poorly air-conditioned rooms in high season are one of the most-complained-about problems in Athens KA1 feedback. Ask specifically about the venue.
Practical use of the city. Some Athens providers integrate site visits (Acropolis Museum, Benaki, National Archaeological Museum) as part of pedagogy. - Use the metro from the airport. €9 gets you to the city centre in 40 minutes, one of the best airport-to-city links in Europe.
- Book central. A hotel in Syntagma, Plaka or Kolonaki puts you within walking distance of most course venues and cultural sites. Cheaper suburban hotels waste time in transit.
- Group meals over hotel restaurants. Athens tavernas are excellent value for group dinners. €20-25 per head buys a full meal.
- Book flights before the course. Athens flights fluctuate; Ryanair, Aegean and Sky Express often have competitive rates if booked 8+ weeks out.
